Everyone loves a surprise…or do they? Book Subscription Boxes have been on the scene for a bit. If you’re looking for the best Canadian Book Subscription Boxes, you’ve come to the right place! I have personally purchased these four and they all deserve a look!

Hopeless Romantic Romance Book Box
Price for a single box: $45-65 CAD

If you’re a romance book lover in Toronto, Hopeless Romantic Book Store is definitely a highlight. They are a romance only bookstore with some brick and mortar locations in Toronto, and also have an online store. They have a Romance Book Box you can either buy a single box of or subscribe. The price of the box is exactly the same if you were to subscribe or buy a one off box.
Hopeless Romantic has 2 tiers of their book boxes:
- Romance Lover – $45
- The book, a few themed goodies (stickers, bookplate), a discount to their store
- Hopelessly Romantic – $65
- The book, a few themed goodies (stickers, bookplace), 1 ‘hero item’, a discount to their store

I think the really interesting thing about this box is that the curation is super specific (Romance books) and since they have the store they are able to lean into providing signed books and the discount to their store.
Everything is visible when you’re purchasing (other than I guess if you do get a subscription), so it is nice in someways that you’re getting exactly what you want. The August Box was special in that Let’s Kiss and Tell was actually sent out in the box before the actual release date. Again, since they have the bookstore I feel like they are able to really lean into some special things that maybe other book boxes might not be able to!
Aardvark Book Club
Price for a single box: $54 CAD (1 month Gift Box of 3 books)

Aardvark Book Club is a book only focused book box. Their concept is very similar to Book of the Month, but they are much cheaper for Canadians (Book of the Month is around $84 CAD for the exact same thing). Aardvark is headquartered in Toronto but they do ship out of the US (my books were shipped from Texas)
I decided to do the gift box which is set at 3 books. The subscription is based on ‘credits’. Its $26 CAD for one book, and then $16 CAD for each additional book. The books you get are special edition hardcover versions.
What I think is super unique about this book box is the book selections. There are some books I’ve heard of, but others I haven’t. They have availability for all genres but a focus on horror and sci-fi. They usually have around 6 books in total for selection a month. If you’re looking for unique reads and book only boxes, Aardvark is worth a look!
Lit Love Book Box

Lit Love is the only book box that has survived from when this post was originally written in Jan 2023.
Lit Love has a wide variety of boxes and genres that really suit every reader. You can purchase boxes as a one off purchase or you can also do a subscription. I really love the flexibility here. If you end up going for a subscription, you can save a bit of money on the price of the box.
For the monthly boxes you will definitely be able to find a book you like! They usually have around 10-12 books you can choose from or you can go with the mystery book (genre shared).
For the quarterly boxes, you’ll choose a genre (they have quite a few you can decide on), but the book will always be a mystery.
Here are their current offerings as of Sept 2026. I have quoted the single box prices just for ease, but if you end up doing a subscription, you could expect a discount
Monthly Subscriptions:
- Indulge – $120
- Focuses on sweet treats but also includes some wearables or household goods, along with your book you’ll get around 5-6 items
- Brew – $85
- You get to choose a coffee or tea paired with a snack and your book!
- Crave – $85
- A collection of 4 snacks with your book!
Quarterly Subscriptions:
- Coast to Coast (pictured above) – Packed with 6-8 items focusing completely on Canadian makers
- Choose the goodies with the book – $150
- You can also just get the goodies with no book – $130
- Triple Stack – Enjoy 3 books
- You can choose from a Full Box with also includes 5 Canadian made items – $140
- Or just stick with the 3 books – $85
Out of all the boxes they definitely have the most range in terms of options available here. Their selection has been really spot on and I obviously love the focus on Canadian goods. They also make an awesome gift.
Mythic Manuscripts Indie Book Box

Mythic Manuscripts is a small Canadian business focusing on Indie Canadian authors which is amazing. The have both premade book boxes (where the box is featured around a specific book) or they have regular scheduled book subscriptions. The specific book box I ended up getting which I think sets them apart is their Mystery Indie Book Box ($95).
They personally pick out an indie book for you based on your genre you chose along with reviewing your Goodreads. I love the fact they are featuring indie authors and the box came with a handwritten note on why they thought I would love the book they picked for me.
The items in the box are more focused on additions to your reading experience like coloured tab markers, stickers and pens. I think the real treat is the hyper personalized curation with an exposure to a book you might not have picked up otherwise!
Mythic Manuscripts also sell the things that they feature in their boxes along with some books in their online store as well.
