Unboxing: Sam and Lance Empower-Her Subscription Box

sam and lance subscription box

One thing I love to talk about, support and just rave about are local Toronto or Canadian owned business. The ‘shop local’ movement took to new heights with the pandemic and I’m always on the look out for new and exciting local businesses to support. Sam and Lance, a woman-owned business supporting other woman-owned and local businesses, reached out to see if I was willing to try one of their boxes. I was happy to do so! I can’t wait to show you what was in the Fall Empower-her box!

About Sam and Lance

Sam and Lance was founded by Alora and Veronica. The company name comes from their grandmothers, two strong woman who they both admire. Sam and Lance have both pre-designed boxes for different occasions along with their quarterly subscription box. Their focus is on woman-owned, sustainability, and Canadian. They donate at least 1% of their profits to different philanthropic causes and also plant a tree for each order (more info on this can be found here).

About the Empower-Her Box

As mentioned, the Empower-Her box is just one of their offerings, but was the thing I was most curious to try. It’s a quarterly subscription box costing $59.95 CAD. You can save $10 if you sign up annually. They say you’ll get at least $100 worth of products in the box and all of the things I got in my box were full sized. Each box contains 100% of the products from female owned businesses, and at least 50% from Canadian businesses. Check, check and check!

The box itself is a cute printed cardboard that can definitely be recycled. It also contains a product card like most subscription boxes. Lets get into the fall one!

So Luxury Dishsoap

I’ve heard of this brand before actually, and this is something I’ll definitely use up. On the product card this is listed as 100% biodegradable, vegan and septic safe.

Province Apothecary Invigorating + Balancing Toner

I’ve just started to actually integrate toners into my skincare routine, so I’m excited to try this one!

Brave Soles Passport Holder

This passport holder is made from upcycled materials and reclaimed tire inner tubes! Very cool!

Ojibway Natural Shampoo Bar

Ojibway Natural is indigenous-woman run that focuses on natural bath and body care items! This smells really good, but I’m not sure if i’ll be able to make use of it! Since dying my hair I’ve been a bit particular what I use, but we shall see!

The Milana Co Tongue Cleaner

I feel like I’d definitely have a use for this as I do clean my tongue and find that it does indeed help with fighting bad breath. Curious to see if this stanless steel one will keep my tongue equally as clean as my current methods!

Your Green Kitchen Fabric Bowl Cover

Your Green Kitchen

I’m really pleased with this! I have the beeswax covers but I find I don’t use them that much because they are either too small or too hard to really wrap around things. I love the print on this and love that this can be just thrown into the washing machine.

Overall

I think for around $60, this is a pretty decent box. It’s a good way to be introduced to some local, woman-owned companies and products. I think this box is especially good if you’re entering into your sustainability journey and may not have tried a lot of items that focus on it. Looking at some of the past boxes on the site, they seem to have a good variety of items included and don’t seem to overlap a ton between boxes.

Thanks so much for reading! Have a great day!
