Haul: Canadian Small Business Gift Guide

small business canada gift guide 2020

Hello! I thought it was perfect to put together this post on the first snowfall of the season! With more people looking online for gifts, it provides the perfect opportunity to shop local, small, and Canadian. I’ve been doing some shopping for myself recently and thought I’d show you some of my favourite brands to check out!

Freon Collective

First up is a favourite for more ways than one. Nancy is a very good friend of mine in the blogging world who owns Freon Collective. A product that put her on the map are her re-useable cotton rounds. I use mine mostly for toner, but they are great also with a micellar water to remove makeup! She also sells scrunchies, tote bags, face masks, and face cloths all in beautiful prints.

Make this Universe

Another brand that I’ve been loving for some time is Make this Universe. Jessye, the owner, is so engaging with her customers and I’m so pleased with the products I’ve tried so far. I met her last year at the One of a Kind show where I was her very first custom facial oil of the show! I love my face oil and thought I would try this kit from her to make your own candle! It was a wonderful afternoon activity. This would make a great gift! You can check out my experience making my candle in my instagram story highlight!

Knix

Okay, Knix isn’t really a small business anymore, but I still wanted to give them a shoutout. I was able to get some amazing deals during their recent online warehouse sale, but I’d pay full price for them honestly. For those that menstruate, I really love these underwear. It’s really shocking how much these hold! They are also machine washable too which is a godsend! They have a lot of different styles and colours. They also just recently introduced their heavy flow leakproof and I’m intrigued!

Masha Apparel

Since I’ve been working from home pretty much exclusively, I’ve stocked up on comfy clothes. I found Masha Apparel through One of a Kind’s online show and I was impressed how responsive she was. I had looked at this Cotton Candy Sweater and she reached out through the One of a Kind messaging service to see if I had any questions. This sweater is machine washable with like colours. I washed it today actually and the colours are still super vibrant! She sells sweaters and matching bottoms for a lot of her tie dye items which are all hand dyed and super unique! I love this sweater so far!

Coal and Canarycoal and canary advent candle

Last but not least is Coal and Canary! I had received a small candle from them in the PR package for the One of a Kind show last year. Now that I’m working from home, I’ve enjoyed burning candles as I work. The best thing I noticed about that small candle was that the scent wasn’t overwhelming. For some candles I sometimes need to blow them out half way through the day because it just gets too intense. These are hand poured in Winnipeg, use a wooden crackling wick, and their packaging and designs are just so cute. This candle is so cool as it’s actually and ‘advent’ calendar! It has a notch for each day in December where you burn them for two hours a day until Christmas! I can’t wait for December!
