I feel like I’ve been off NYX for awhile, but I’ve recently seen a couple of interesting launches, the Powder Puff Lippies included. The Powder Puff Lippies ($12 CAD) are a liquid to powder liquid lipstick that goes on moussey and then dries down. I bought two shades, and am looking forward to giving you the low-down!
I bought two shades, Pop Quiz (a deep berry, pictured aboved) and Best Buds (a nude rose). There are a total of eight colours with nudes, reds, pinks and darks. There’s not a huge variety, but still enough to pick one you’re interested in. The tube is matte with soft squishy plastic.
The applicator is the most focused part of this lipstick. It’s a soft fluffy applicator in the shape of an orb. To get the product to come out, all you have to do is squeeze the tube.
In terms of materials of the applicator, it’s almost like a soft velour? It’s hard to explain. I like the applicator as it applies the product cleanly and smoothly. Even though I have major issues with making clean lines with my lipstick, I found this was okay as I was able to smooth it out with the applicator.
So now getting to the actual product. As mentioned, it goes on smooth and pretty even with the applicator. I was pretty impressed with the pigmentation of these. They give a good amount of punch! Once it’s on the lips, the sensation was pretty hard to explain! It was smooth, but almost had a feeling of particles in it? That’s not a very good way of explaining it, as it’s not noticeable or uncomfortable at all, but not just completely smooth.
Pop Quiz – Best Buds
In terms of the liquid to powder formula, I think it works pretty nicely actually. Depending on how much you apply, it dries down differently. If you apply quite a bit, I find it doesn’t really dry to a powder. It sets, but still remains quite wet. If I apply a thin layer or pat down with a tissue, then it definitely becomes much drier. Wear time is pretty good. It’s not as long as a KVD or Colour Pop Ultra Matte Lip, but still more so than just a regular cream lipstick.
The best comparison I have to these in general are the Too Faced Melted lipsticks. The formula is a bit different with the ‘particles’, but in terms of colour payoff and overall ‘feeling’ they are extremely similar! If you like that formula, I would definitely try these ones out!
Thanks so much for reading! Have a great day!!
