Brand Collection: Maybelline New York

A staple brand in the drugstore is Maybelline New York. They carry everything and are well known for their foundation and mascara. I mentioned recently that I really need to get back to the drugstore and try out some products. ChickAdvisor must have heard my calls cause I recently got chosen to try out a Product Review Club opportunity with Maybelline.

There were five products I got to try out:

• Fit Me Matte Poreless Foundation
• Facestudio Master Camo Colour Correcting Kit
• Facestudio Master Strobing Liquid Illuminating Highlighter
• Brow Precise Perfecting Highlighter
• The Colossal Big Shot Mascara

I thought I would do some mini reviews on items I liked and ones that I didn’t.

Fit Me Matte Poreless Foundation

It was a bit hard for me to test this foundation just because the shade wasn’t perfect. It’s unfortunate though because it’s a pretty decent foundation. I looked up reviews before trying it (which maybe I shouldn’t have) and there were mixed thoughts on this. I actually really liked this because it really did give me a flawless finish and stayed on all day. I worked out with this foundation too (another tick on the list of things I shouldn’t do) and it held up great.

The cons on this though is definitely the colour selection. Because I liked this foundation, I was looking to see if there was another colour that might work. There are only 12 shades and all are very pink toned. The yellow toned colours were either too dark or too light. Another huge con in my opinion is no pump. With the amount of foundation that I use and try on a regular basis, a pump is pretty much a mandatory thing for me. End of story.

Facestudio Master Camo Colour Correcting Kit

A huge win for me is this colour correcting kit. I have one from NYX that I really like, and was equally impressed with this. I didn’t bother using the brush/ applicator with this as my fingers apply this great. The product was thick but easy to apply and blend. Both corrector shades are perfect as I have a lot of redness around my nose and unreal dark circles. The concealer and highlighter shades are equally as useful. If you’re looking for a drugstore colour correcting kit I would definitely check this one out.

Facestudio Master Strobing Liquid Illuminating Highlighter

Another really great find in this Maybelline collection is this liquid highlighter. I don’t have many liquid highlighters at all, and tend to focus on my Becca pressed powders. I was pleasantly surprised with this as it looked different than any other highlighter I’ve used. I like the slick look and can definitely see myself continuing to use this.

Brow Precise Perfecting Highlighter

Speaking of pleasantly surprised, this brow highlighter is definitely another great find. I usually put my regular face highlighter on when I highlight my brow bone, but love this look as well. It didn’t look too crazy bright, but actually gave a really natural look. Almost like a concealer, but less thick. The shape makes it easy to use and it blends nicely. Even though it’s a very specific product for a a very specific purpose, I would recommend this.

The Colossal Big Shot Mascara

So to be fair with this, I don’t use mascara. I have just come to the conclusion that it doesn’t work out for me. I have a whole post on it here. My lashes suck and mascara just doesn’t adhere. With this being said, this mascara didn’t change my mind at all. I found when applying this was fairly clumpy near the roots. Length was okay on this, but nothing that I haven’t seen before. BUT as said before, this is from my non-mascara wearing opinion.

I was so happy to be picked for this Product Review Club and be introduced back to the drugstore in a huge way. I was generally very impressed with the products I received! Maybelline is definitely a brand that will be on my radar in the future!
