Makeup Looks + First Impressions: My Almay Face

So I’m not sure if it’s just me, but Almay has been changing up their look. Early on in my makeup journey, I had a couple of things from Almay, but to tell you the truth, they kind of blend in with all the other drugstore brands. From their recent look and feel, you can tell they are trying to differentiate themselves as ‘cleaner and hypoallergenic’. They’ve always been sort of about this, but with the recent clean beauty trends, they are definitely putting that more front and centre. Today I have a few new-to-me/ newish-to-me products from Almay that I put together into a look. Can’t wait to show you my thoughts!

Clear Complexion Foundation

I’m always down to try a new foundation, and in general, am pretty impressed with this one. The selling feature on the Clear Complexion is the fact that it has salicylic acid to help with breakouts and prevent new ones. I’ve been using this without any active breakouts so I can’t really talk to this. In general, this is a nice foundation. It’s not the best I’ve ever used because it starts to break down near the end of the day (not super noticeable, but my redness started to show through). I think this is a true medium coverage foundation that’s easy to blend and wear day to day. I was sent the shade Buff and it’s a pretty good match. I can definitely see this being integrated in my collection for a day that I want to look a bit more put together (but don’t have an event I want to be bulletproof for).

Velvet Foil Eyeshadow

I’ve used these velvet foil shadows before and I LOVE them. The finish is so incredible and the colour array is so nice. I have a few other swatches and thoughts on these guys over on my last Almay post.

Brow Styler

Next up is the brow styler, which is described as a ‘brow mascara’. I’ve preferred other brow products such as the NYX microbrow and the Inglot brow gel, but this was interesting to use. I love how thin the brush was but found it somewhat hard to get an even coating. After a couple of swipes, I could get it looking pretty natural, but never really felt I could get it perfect.

Lip Vibes Lipstick

I was pleasantly surprised with the lip vibes lipstick. The colour I have is Love Yourself which looks like a deep red in the tube, on the on my lips it was a much brighter and lighter. I’m not mad about that at all, and quite like the colour. This lipstick is extremely creamy and is very comfortable on the lips. With this said, I don’t feel it slipping in anyway. I’m definitely curious to try other colours in the collection!

My Look

The look came together quite nicely! As I mentioned, I love the velvet foils. I used the colour Violet Eyelight on the lid and blended with the Huda Beauty Amethyst Obsessions palette. Eyeliner is the Sephora Collection Hot Line Brush tip (you can check out my more indepth review here).

I used the velvet foil in Cupid Glaze as actually a blush-highlight on my cheeks.

The standouts in this collection are definitely the velvet foils and the lip vibes lipsticks. The foundation is okay, not stellar, which are my same thoughts on the brow styler.

What do you think of the products? What are your thoughts on Almay as a brand?

Thanks for reading! Have a great day!
