A couple of weeks ago I got the chance to check out the Ultra Calming line from Dermalogica at the Dermalogica Chalet. We got two items from the line to try out: the Calm Water Gel and the Barrier Defence Booster. I’ve been using the two for a couple of weeks now and I think I can give you my opinion on the two!
Calm Water Gel
The Calm Water Gel ($65 CAD) is a moisturizer to help sooth sensitive skin. The texture is unique as it’s a very watery gel. When it comes out of the tube, it’s a gel, but when you mix it in your hands, it becomes very watery. The directed use is to ‘activate’ this moisturizer by rubbing it together in your hands and then patting it on. I would say this a good moisturizer, but if you have extremely flakey skin, I would recommend more of a thicker cream. This worked fine for me as it was more of a ‘barrier’ than a mositurizer. I didn’t feel a deep down moisturize, but after putting it on my skin, it felt refreshed and natural without making my skin feel greasy. I had some really dry patches on my upper lip after doing laser, which never really got fully smooth. This might not be considered ‘dry’ skin, but I still expected some relief or moisture benefits.
Barrier Defense Booster
The Barrier Defense Booster ($101 CAD) is an oil to both relieve dryness and help to prevent against further irritation. I actually really like this product. I’ve just started to dabble in facial oils and I find they actually do help a lot. I’ve always stayed away from oil based products because of my oily-combination skin. I find that oils help to improve the texture of my skin and help keep my makeup looking fresh. I’ve been using the Barrier Defense Booster under my moisturizer and it’s been working very well! My skin has felt smooth and moisturized during this cold biting winter.
Overall
In general, I think if you have really sensitive skin, the Ultra Calming line is worth looking into. I can definitely see myself using up these products, but not sure if I’ll be repurchasing. The price point is really high on these, and even though I do think they make my skin better, do they make it that much better?
With this being said, I’m curious to try more Dermalogica products in the future!
Thanks for reading! Have a great day!
