Review: Mary Kay Gel Semi-Shine Lipsticks

Lipsticks are one of my vices. I feel like I have tons in my collection and it doesn’t seem to be shrinking anytime soon! When I was sent the new Mary Kay Gel Semi-Shine Lipsticks to try out, I was excited! I was able to get pretty good results from their Semi-Matte lipsticks (review can be found here), so I had high hopes!

The Gel Semi-Shine lipsticks come in 12 shades with something in there for everyone. The packaging is the same as the Gel Semi-Matte lipsticks which are a shiny black tube with a window at the top to see the colour. I really like these lipstick bullets just because they feel very substantial in the hand. It definitely feels like higher end packaging to me.

BR = Naturally Buff – Love Me Pink – Sunset Peach – Raspberry Ice – Red Smolder – Haute Pink

FR= Luminous Lilac – Rosewood – Spiced Ginger – Apple Berry – Scarlet Red – Berry Couture

Right off the bat, these lipsticks have great pigmentation. I find you need to work them a bit to get completely opaque compared to the one-swipe with the Semi-Matte. Once on the lips, they are extremely smooth and buttery and left that ‘semi-shine’ look which is very flattering.

I liked some colours more than others. The pinks and reds in this collection are top notch. I found that some of the darker shades were a bit patchy though like Spiced Ginger and Berry Couture. My favourite shades from this collection are Sunset Peach, Raspberry Ice, Haute Pink, and Red Smolder.

In terms of wear, I think these lasted for a decent amount of time. I found on average around a 5-6 hour wear which isn’t bad at all. I did find my lips were getting a bit flaky throughout the day though so if you’re like me, you might want to ensure you have a balm underneath to prevent this as much as possible.

For $21 CAD, I think these are fairly priced. If there are any colours you like, I would recommend adding some to your collection!

Any shades catch your eye? Thanks so much for reading! Have a great day!

    1. They’re good eh? Yeah! It was so funny I was looking back on my Semi Matte post and I saw your comment from about not trying any Mary Kay products! Haha!
