Rambling Review

This is the first time I have tried using hot wax in spatula and tub form. I purchased a Veet electric hot wax product which wasn’t all that great, so I wasn’t sure what to expect from this one. Just a bit of background, I usually shave my legs but wax my underarms using cold wax strips.

The kit comes with a little tongue depressor stick, re-usable fabric sheets, instructions, and the tub of wax. Something I really liked was that the sheets are re-usable, you just need a bit of water to remove the wax from them.

The wax was super easy to heat up, you just pop it in the microwave for 30 seconds. It warmed up evenly and at the perfect temperature. The smell is quite pleasant (candy apple, yum) and the consistency was great. Now I was ready to go. I started with my legs and then I moved onto my underarms.

The first thing I noticed was it was a little awkward to get the right amount of wax on my legs. When I ripped off the sheets, there was still a bit of wax left over.

My fingers were getting sticky and making sure I didn’t mess up the wax everywhere on my carpet (bad idea doing it in my carpeted room probably…) was a bit of a challenge.

What I noticed though was that my legs and underarms ended up really really smooth. I’m very happy with the results and I can guess that this would last longer than shaving (they claim it lasts up to 4 weeks).

After finishing, I was sorta sticky all over. I was not planning to take a shower, so I had to run a towel under water to remove the wax. The good thing was it was very easy to remove. Other cold wax products I have dealt with have been a hassle to get the excess wax off. One thing I did notice is that it turned my fingers red after washing the fabric strips off!

It’s not super stained, but definitely noticeable.

My tips for using hot wax:

  • Make sure you have ample time on your hands. I would consider this a much lengthier process than shaving
  • Do this right before you are planning to take a shower. Clean up will be so much easier. (They recommend you don’t use this within an hour of taking a shower because your skin may be still a little wet, making the wax less effective)
  • Maybe wear gloves so your hands don’t get stained like mine
  • Use the wooden stick to put on a thin layer of wax. I think I sabotaged myself by using big globs when I could have done enough with just a thin layer.

All in all, I’m excited to try this again. I think with practice and timing, this could be a very good alternative to shaving.

Thanks for reading!

  1. Waxing definitely takes more time but your legs stay smooth for so much longer! I've been waxing my legs at home for a while and I am still perfecting my technique. You'll get there πŸ™‚

  2. Hi Connie! Thanks for the comment. I do agree with all that you've said! I have been waxing for a long time, just not my legs. I've used cold wax for my underarms and it works a lot better than shaving!

  3. Hi Kristine! I will definitely try my best to help! πŸ™‚ Sorry for the late reply! Disqus didn't send me notifications on this comment. :<

Hmm! Mine definitely stayed creamy. Well, I'm not sure creamy is the best word, more like a tacky consistency. It should definitely feel sticky during application. I would say it's easiest if you have a very thin layer. The thinest you can get using the popcicle stick. Once you apply the thing layer, press the sheet on in downward motion. The sheet should definitely be stuck securely to the wax at this point. Then rip the sheet up in the opposite way that you pressed down on it (if that makes sense). Make sure to do one very quick motion.

What I'm thinking is that maybe you applied to much and the sheet couldn't grab all the wax? That's the only think I can think of though. I hope I was able to help a little bit…let me know if I was unclear with anything!! Good luck!

  4. Hi, I've just bought this product and I'm looking for a little help. Because it's so new, there's not that much out there for it yet! I followed the instructions, but when I ripped the sheet off, well, nothing happened. I was just left with a gooey mess on my legs. Is the wax supposed to harden slightly? Or is it supposed to stay creamy? Also, what application thickness did you find worked best? Thanks!

  5. Thanks for the reply Melanie! I don't know whether it's because it's humid where I am right now or what, but my wax definitely doesn't seem tacky. So far I've gotten the best results by applying it and then standing by my air conditioning vent for a couple minutes before applying the sheet. I'll definitely try to apply the wax a bit thinner and see if that helps. Thanks again!

  6. Hmm yes that maybe could be it! How long do you put it in the microwave for? Yeah, makes sense that the air conditioner would help! Let me know how it goes!

  7. The first time I put it in for the 30 seconds as directed. Second time I did 25 seconds. Third time I did 20 seconds. They all seemed to yield about the same results.

  8. Oh no really? :/ I also heard that you should avoid all water with this wax other than when you're removing it. So I guess the humidity would be the likely culprit!
