Haul: L’Oreal Sale

*Purchased

Hi there!

I hope you are having a great day. I come to you with a haul. At the start of the year I said that I would be cutting down on hauls, and I have to some degree. A couple of weeks ago though, my friend asked me if I would be interested in going to this L’Oreal sale. It’s a ticketed event but his mom got them from work. SO. HAPPY. No buy? No more.

My friend and I trekked out not really knowing what to expect. I knew they had some pretty good deals on Essie, but other than that I wasn’t too sure. When I got there, I was pleasantly surprised. Here’s what I picked up!

1. Garnier Refreshing Remover Cleansing Towelettes

Price: $5.75 CAD

I didn’t actually really want to buy these. These were actually one of the more expensive things that I bought. I am running out of makeup wipes, so instead of being economical and going out to get cheaper wipes, I bought these. I don’t think I’ve ever seen this in the store. Meh, I’m usually game for trying any type of makeup wipes. We shall see!

2. Ombrelle SPF 45 Ultra Light Cream (Sunscreen)

Price: $5 CAD

Just realized I photographed the French side. D’oh. But you get the point. I actually need a new face sunscreen and I haven’t used the Ombrelle brand in forever. I used this today actually and it’s pretty nice! The only thing is that it expires next year, so I’ll have to spend a lot of time in the sun this year!!

3. Garnier BB Cream Skin Renew in Light

Price: $12 CAD

As usual, I’m always late on the bandwagon. This was hot a couple of years ago (maybe more than a couple of years ago). This was more of an impulse buy, but I thought, meh, wanted to try it. Me buy. πŸ™‚ I’ve used it a couple of times and like it! The only warning I have is that it is VERY VERY scented. I don’t actually mind the scent, but if you’re not a fan of fragrance in makeup I wouldn’t recommend this.

4. Maybelline Baby Lips in 70 Coral Crush and 95 Strike a Rose

Price: $2 CAD each

I was so happy to find these! I’m already a fan of the Baby Lips line (other than Dr. Rescue), so I thought I would branch out from my clear one. I’ve used the Coral one and really like it! Can’t wait to see how pigmented the bright pink one is. πŸ˜€

5. Essie Nail Polish in Vices Versa and Strut Your Stuff

Price: $4.75 CAD each (I think)

I thought I would go bananas for the Essie, but I reigned myself in. πŸ˜‰ Both of these are from the Neon 2014 collection. Can you tell I’m ready for spring and summer?!

6. Maybelline Colour Tattoo in 90 Nude Compliment, 80 Pure Nude, 85 Beige-ing Beauty

Price: $2.75 CAD each

These took a lot of digging in the big bins, but I managed to grab 3 that I really love. Can you tell I like neutrals? The only Colour Tattoo I have right now is Bad to the Bronze, so it’s nice to add a few lighter shades to the mix.

7. L’Oreal Colour Extraordinary Lip Colour in 104 Dancing Rose

Price: $3

When I saw these there I probably (embarrassingly) squealed a bit. I got one of these at TIFF this year in the L’Oreal hut and I’ve been waiting to purchase more. It’s a lip gloss that wears so nicely. It also leaves a nice stain on your lips. I’ve been holding off just because of the price in the drugstores,  but this one was such a steal! So glad I waited!

And there we have it! After doing this haul, I feel like I could have gone a bit crazier. I’m gad to be saving my money though. :p This sale was totally worth it and I’m so happy that I went. πŸ˜€

Thanks for reading and I hope you have a great day!

Review: E2 Elements Squared Hair Care

*Gift/Sent for Review

Hi there! πŸ™‚ This post is a long time coming! Back in December, Whitney from Macarons and Mischief (she is so lovely, please check her out!) held a contest and I won! The prize included a personalized set of Shampoo, Conditioner, and Leave-in Treatment from Elements Squared. After asking E2 if it was okay to talk about their products on my blog, they included a mini set of their shampoos to mix and play around with to create my own shampoo!

Brand Background

Before going into the product, let me expand a bit on the brand. E2 is based in Vancouver, Canada. The company was created after it was seen that the current hair care selection was lacking. Their mission presented on their website is:

Elements Squared Products Inc. aims to enhance natural beauty through our company’s philosophy of using the best natural ingredients to formulate products that are personalized to supplement every client’s needs. Currently we have used this philosophy to develop a revolutionary hair care system that is designed for hair professionals to personalize for you.

The hair care line is to be used by salons which are able to assess your hair situation and then mix  accordingly. In terms of shampoo, there are 5 different bases: Detox Fire, Shiny Metal, Flexible Wood, Volume Earth, and Moisture Water.

Depending on how these bases are mixed, the end result is a personalized hair care solution. Their products are vegan, not tested on animals, gluten free, and pH balanced. See below for the full list.

Reviews

I was able to tell the people at E2 a bit more about my hair and they mixed me up a few special concoctions. πŸ™‚ The main concerns I have about my hair is the frizz. It’s almost come to the point where I’ve accepted it as a fact of life. It’s just always there. So what surprised me the most about this hair care system was that it worked! I have not tried anything that has been able to tame my frizz better. I wouldn’t say it’s 100% gone, but MUCH better than it once was. This is not all these do. It keeps my hair light and cleans very well. You have to shake the bottles before use to ensure that all of the components are evenly distributed which was not an issue at all. I noticed that the shampoo and conditioner were a lot more liquidy then I’m used to. This as well is not an issue.

The mixture I created on my own at home (with some help from E2!) was a clarifying shampoo. I wanted something that cleaned well and removed the oil buildup. I mixed Detox Fire, Moisture Water, and Flexible Wood. I was very impressed with the results! Even though I am by no means a hair expert, I was able to create something that really worked.

After shampooing and conditioning as normal, I was also given a bottle of their Star Treatment

It is a leave-in conditioner that can be used in wet or dry hair. To tell you the truth, since using this hair care system since about late January, I have never needed to use it dry. I use it right after I rinse my hair and it works wonderfully.

One thing I did notice is that all of these products work a bit better if heat is applied. The times I used a hair drier helped leave my hair super smooth, and light.

All in all, I’m so glad that I won Whitney’s contest. I was able to experience one of the best hair care systems I’ve used. The only down side is that since I’m not in Vancouver, I have no access to it anymore. D: It will be very sad when these are empty!!

Hope you have a wonderful day and thanks for reading!

Beauty Tag: The Lip Product Addict Tag

So no one actually tagged me in this, but is saw Ling do it from The Cosmetic Critic (check her out here, she’s awesome) and thought I would do it too! πŸ˜€ As I’m sure most people who do this tag feel, I had a really hard time narrowing it down. To tell you the truth, these I would consider lip products of the moment. Who knows. maybe tomorrow I’ll find another winner.

New photo backgrounds for this post! My boyfriend made me a nail polish shelf that included a cork board for Christmas and I’ve been beyond lazy to put it up. So of course, the natural thing to do would be to use it for a background. Clearly. I’m so looking forward to putting this bad boy up and arranging my nail polish all pretty and such. Eventually.

Swatches are at the end of the post!

What is your favourite balm or treatment?

Pixi Shea Butter Lip Balm in Comfort Clear

This is definitely my balm of the moment. I bought it during my Goodbye Target Haul (which can be seen here). At the time, I thought it was kind of pricey, but I’ve ended up really really liking it. A solid lip balm that provides my chapped lips the moisture it needs!

What is your favourite eye catching red?

Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in 10 Beso

This is DEFINITELY my favourite red. It is so potent and very true to colour. It’s long wearing and smells like vanilla cupcakes! You have to see the swatch below to believe it. This colour was my go-to for the holiday season. The only thing I can say is that it’s hard to apply. You have to be very careful as the colour is so intense!

The best luxury and drugstore products

Luxury
Too Faced Melted Kisses in Melted Nude

Is this considered luxury? I was thissss close to getting a YSL lipstick the last time I was in Sephora but I just honestly couldn’t do it. Maybe someday. I got this liquid lipstick from the 4-pack of the Melted Kisses. I LOVE this colour. When I first saw it, I thought it would look terrible, but it’s honestly the perfect nude. It doesn’t make me look sick which is definitely a plus. I do notice that it accentuates my lip lines a bit, but honestly, I don’t really care. Haters gonna hate.
Drugstore
Wet N Wild Lipstick in 904B Rose Bud

No question, it is definitely the Wet N Wild lipsticks. They are the most inexpensive things you can buy and they work so well. Some people say they are a bit drying, but for me (surprisingly) I don’t really notice it. The colour payoff is amazing and totally worth the money. Whenever I see a Wet N Wild stand I look for these but since I bought my original 3, I haven’t been able to find them anywhere!

Best MAC lipstick?

MAC Lipstick in Lustering

I only have two MAC lipsticks. This one in Lustering, and a Nicki Minaj Viva Glam one. I loveeee this colour. This lipstick is great for applying a very sheer coat of colour, or going more dramatic. I turn to it a lot because it’s not drying, and I like the scent of MAC lipsticks. I’ve been looking at more MAC lipsticks, so maybe I’ll be adding more to my collection (Syrup anyone?).

Most disappointing lip product?

Cailyn Art Touch Tinted Lip Gloss in 08 Love Affair

I got this product in an ipsy bag. From the first application I knew I hated it. The colour looks pretty nice in the bottle, but on the lips it looks so different. It isn’t substantial and it’s way too thin. I actually will probably throw this out. It’s not even really worth keeping.

Lip Liner: Yes or No?

No Bleeding Lips Lipliner and MAC Pro Longwear Lip Pencil in Trust in Red

Usually I’m a ‘No’ for lip liner, but there are some occasions. If I am wearing a really bright colour I will try and wear one. I notice also that some of my Wet N Wild lipsticks can feather after long periods of time. I actually bought my MAC lip liner specifically for one of my Wet N Wild lipsticks. The No Bleeding Lips is an interesting concept as it’s clear so you can apply it with any lipstick.

Favourite gloss?

NARS Lipgloss in Shade IV

At the moment this is my favourite gloss. From all of the NARS glosses I have, I think this one looks the prettiest. It provides a nice stain to the lips and it also is pretty long wearing. One thing I also like is that it has moisturizing properties as well.

Something else?

BITE High Pigment Pencil in Meritage

This!!! After using this product, I can see why BITE is so popular. This colour would be very flattering on anyone. It’s probably one of my most favourite everyday lip products at the moment. I would HIGHLY recommend this!!

Swatches:

1. Wet N Wild Lipstick in Rose Bud
2. MAC Pro Longwear Lip Pencil in Trust in Red
3. Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in 10 Beso
4. NARS Lipgloss in Shade IV
5. Cailyn Art Touch Tinted Lip Gloss in 08 Love Affair
6. BITE High Pigment Pencil in Meritage
7. MAC Lipstick in Lustering
8. Too Faced Melted Kisses in Melted Nude

Thanks for reading, I hope you enjoyed it! πŸ™‚ See you next time.

My Z Palette + Inglot Eye Shadow Review

*Purchased

Hello, hello! I wanted to start this blog by saying Happy Valentines Day! Even when single, I never understood the hatred that some have for the day. To each their own I guess. I understand that love should be shown all days of the year, but I still like the idea of Valentines Day. πŸ™‚ Maybe I just like holidays in general.

Anyways, I also wanted to say sorry for the lack of posts. In all honesty I’ve just been a combination of busy/lazy (more of the latter). I haven’t been able to read any blogs either! Hope to catch up on my bloglovin’ blog roll eventually as well.

In this post, I will be doing an overview of my Z- palette and a review of 5 Inglot shadows I picked up. If you didn’t see it, I had to return the Tartelette palette (which can be read about here) and decided to build my own palette.

Z- Palette

For those that don’t know what a Z palette is, it’s a cardboard palette where you can hold individual shadows, blushes, etc. It has magnetic properties in the palette which allow the shadows to stick. I researched a lot before buying this one. You can buy many different types of z-palettes online, or other palettes like the MAC and Make Up For Ever ones. I bought this one from Sephora, as seen by the design. The one thing I can comment on is that it was pretty expensive. This was the biggest size that Sephora sells and it was $35 dollars. You can get Z palettes online for cheaper, but I had a gift card for Sephora so it was worth it for me. The kit also comes with de-potting supplies to help you remove products that are already in a palette. I haven’t used them yet so I can’t comment.

In my palette right now, I have my 5 Inglot shadows and a Benefit Coralista blush. My boyfriend got me the Benefit Advent Calendar 2 Christmases ago and it came with sample products like this blush. I didn’t need to de-pot the blush because it came in a cheap plastic cover which I was able to rip (hulk power!).

Overall:

  • Great way to cut down on clutter
  • Easy to see all your shadows in one area
  • I like that it has a clear cover to see in
  • Has more than enough room for my makeup needs
  • A bit on the pricey side compared to online, MAC or MUFE palettes

Inglot Shadows

 330-337-397-344-329

Now on to the review of a couple of shadows I bought. I’m gonna just make these quick bullet points, cause I know you wanna move on with your life and such.

#330

  • A matte beige colour
  • A good lid colour
  • Could be used as a highlight on brow bone or even maybe on cheeks?
  • A bit of fallout noticed

#337

  • A taupey brown colour
  • My least favourite colour
  • Not as opaque as expected
  • Takes a lot to build up
  • Noticed some fallout when swishing my brush around

#397

  • A peachy gold shimmery colour
  • Looks awesome as an overall lid colour
  • Very very pretty on the eye and my favourite shadow of the bunch

#344

  • A purpley taupey brown
  • I like this for a crease colour
  • Could also be used as a very subtle outer corner shadow

#329

  • VERY pigmented
  • I’ve been using this for outer corner
  • A bit hard to blend. If too much shadow is used it can look patchy when blended

Overview

In general, after using these shadows for about a month, I think I’ve gotten a good grasp on which ones I like and which ones I don’t. My favourite is #397 and my least favourite is #337. I would say that overall I am happy with these shadows, but they were a bit over-hyped for me. I think it depends the colour you get as I found that different colours had a different formulation. I would also say that my Urban Decay Naked 3 palette is more blendable than these ones in general. With that said though, I would be interested in trying more of these out!

Thanks so much for reading! Hope you have a wonderful day!

Tartelette Amazonian Clay Matte Eyeshadow Palette- Overview, Swatches, and Dilemma?!

*Purchased

I come to you today with a beautiful release from Tarte…and a dilemma!

I’ll get into the dilemma later in the post though. Today I’ll be talking about the new Tartelette Matte Eyeshadow palette by Tarte. I was able to get a hold of it before it was released on Sephora through the VIB/VIB Rouge early access. I was also able to use my VIB coupon (which I told myself I wouldn’t use, whoops) on this because it was over $50. I bought this online and even with the shipping, tax, and duty, it was less than if I had bought it in store.

I picked this up because I felt that it would fill a void in my makeup collection (how dramatic!). The only large palette I have is the Naked 3 (which I love!) but I don’t have many matte colours at all. When I saw this palette was being released, I just had to jump on it.

The case is gorgeous and substantial. It’s all chrome, which made it a bit hard to photograph.

There are 12 eyeshadows in the palette and all of them are matte. When swatching, each of them felt buttery and easy to blend. I’ve heard from other reviews that if you blend too much it can start to look muddy. I’ve personally only used this palette once so far, so I can’t really atest to those claims.

The photo above is taken with flash and I believe that most of these look pretty true to colour. The photo below is in natural light (where you can see my phone case in the mirror haha).

I know a lot of people had mixed opinions on the names. I personally really love the names of the colours. I think they are very positive and uplifting. πŸ™‚ One thing that hardcore ‘tartelettes’ mentioned about this palette is that Tarte did away with the plastic film with the names on it and instead printed them on the palette. This is my first tarte palette so I really didn’t notice the change. :p

Here are the swatches from the palette, from top left to bottom right:

Free Spirit – Force of Nature – Dreamer – Multi-Tasker
Caregiver – Natural Beauty – Best Friend – Bombshell
Super Mom – Wanderer – Power Player – Fashionista
This ain’t no Urban Decay Vice palette which is what I was looking for. All colours are very wearable and neutral. I would say you could make many many different looks with this one palette. One thing that I was surprised when I received this palette was the size. It’s about the size of a CD case. Here it is in comparison to my Naked 3:

So now the dilemma i’ve been facing. All in all I love the palette. They are all colours I would use thoroughly. The one thing that I noticed with this palette is the smell. I noticed it the first time I used it. The colours smell almost rotten if that makes sense. Just really really nasty. I was so disappointed when I found this out and haven’t used this palette since. :/ I have no idea if this is just the scent of the palette or if I just got a bad one.

The problem is that I can’t find this palette ANYWHERE. I’ve checked 3 Sephoras and no go. I’m hoping I can find one store even with a tester as I can’t even find one with that. Since this palette is so new, there are not many reviews out about it. All the ones I’ve seen though have not mentioned a nasty smell or a scent. What I’m planning to do is try my best to find one so I can see if they all smell like this or if I just got a bad one. If they are all like this, unfortunately that will be a deal breaker and I’ll return it. I’ll update this post when I can find out more!

It really sucks because I was looking forward to this palette and it’s gone unused. πŸ™ Hopefully I just got a bad one and can exchange it for another one.

Even with the few negative thoughts, I hope this post will be helpful to those looking for swatches and such. Thanks for reading! Hope you have an awesome day!

UPDATE: So after visiting / calling like, 6 Sephoras I FINALLY found one that had both a tester and new ones that I could exchange. When I smelt the sample, it didn’t smell at all. Unfortunately though, when I smelt the new one, it was the exact same smell as mine (aka nasty). The associate who was helping me said that since Tarte usually does all natural products, sometimes they can smell ‘off’. Another associate likened it to ‘new car smell’. Sadly it was still a deal breaker for me. It’s one of those things where once you know about it, you can’t go back. :/ From what I saw, I guess when you start to use it, it looses the scent. But I just couldn’t do it. :/ The palette wasn’t cheap, so why would I have something that I would continue to neurotically smell? I ended up returning it to get my money back. I’m planning on creating my own matte palette from Inglot so that should be fun. πŸ™‚

Haul: Sephora Black Friday 2014

Well hello there. Hope you are having a great day! I thought I would do a quick post on some things I picked up at this year’s Sephora Black Friday sale. I bought all of these in-store as I just find it easier than staying up late and potentially not getting what I want. This is my third Black Friday pilgrimage and I’ve always gotten everything on my list. πŸ™‚

Not too much as I didn’t want to get out of hand. I also bought 2 of the Tarte packs to give away as gifts. Since those are already being wrapped up, I decided not to include them.

1. Origins Task Maskers

Price: $12 CAD

Funny story about this one. I was the 10th person in line before the Sephora in my area opened. Once everyone was let in, people just started grabbing things. Once things had sort of started to settle down, I noticed the last one of these sets was being grabbed. How disappointing. So I asked an associate who said she didn’t think there were any left. :/ Didn’t really believe her, but what can you do. I paid for my purchase and left. I noticed that the cashier hadn’t taken off my 10% off VIB welcome discount which I was saving for this purchase. As I was going back in, I noticed an associate refilling these, so I was able to get one. πŸ™‚ Worked out that I was able to use my 10% off and get all the things that I wanted. πŸ™‚

I have never tried anything from Origins before so I thought that this would be a good starter kit! Can’t wait to try it out!

2.  Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Sampler

Price: $12 CAD

I didn’t get this last year just cause I thought it was unbelievably expensive for these itty bitty hair things. I don’t usually buy special shampoos, so I was hesitant.  One of my friends bought this last year and ABSOLUTELY LOVED it. Like, loved it so much that she bought the full size. And that is a pretty penny to spend on shampoo! Wanted to see what all the hype was for and try it for myself!

3. Formula X The Two in Juju & Voodo

I was glad to have gotten these ones. I don’t have any Formula X polish and nothing in these colours either. I thought they would be a perfect addition to my collection and that blue will look so nice during this snowy and cold weather!

So there is my haul. I got exactly what I wanted and didn’t overspend at all. πŸ™‚ I can’t wait to try everything out!

Hope you have a wonderful day!

My Blog Birthday: 1 Year of Blogging

Well I can’t believe I’ve done it! November 20th is I’m Not a Beauty Guru’s first birthday. In people years it would still be considered a babbling little baby, but for blog years I’m happy. πŸ™‚ My first post, Beginnings, can be found here.

This is going to be quite a chatty post, just a warning.

I’ve been thinking about this post for a very long time, and I’m so happy to be writing it. I’m proud that I was able to get to this point. I was one of those people that always started off writing journals with the best of intentions and then abandon them. This little blog I have kept up though, which I am happy and proud about. πŸ˜€

A notable thing I did this year was that I joined the CBB Network and was able to meet a lot more beauty bloggers. It was so nice being able to go on my bloglovin and get a constant stream of awesome content! πŸ™‚ Also through the network I was able to start great conversations with other beauty bloggers which I love! I find the network is one of the funnest and unexpected parts of my first year blog journey.

Now for some reflection. Why I started the blog, where I feel I am at, and where I hope to be in the future. I guess in all honesty, I really enjoy where I am at. I started this blog with the intention of it just being a beauty diary. A place for me to keep track of my purchases, if I liked or disliked something, and the works. I never thought I would join a network of blogs, or even set up a bloglovin page. I know many many blogs that have been able to ‘achieve’ much more than my blog was able to in a year or less. I know I have not been a constant poster, but I’m cool with that. I didn’t start this with intentions to try and become an internet celebrity or anything (quite the opposite). Even as I start to learn the ins and outs of beauty blogging, I’ve shied away from some aspects. I’m not saying I am not open to PR or promotions, but that has honestly never been a driving force behind my blog. I knew that I would only stick with this blog if I did it on my own terms.

This has been a hobby for me where I am able to produce something and look back on it. I am able to benchmark my progress and grow. But as any blogger I’m sure has experienced, it’s so easy to get caught up in the numbers game. Even recently I can remember going through my Analytics account fiendishly going through report after report trying to see how I felt my blog was doing, awaiting a comment on my newest post, or even just looking at the follower count on other bloglovin blogs I follow. This is so easy to do, but I think it can turn so destructive. I can’t lie and say that when I see my follower count decrease I don’t feel anything. As I’m sure many know, blogging is very personal and I can’t help but feel a little upset when I see that counter drop! I guess it’s how you deal with the situation and move on from it is what matters. This blog is my space and I’ve been running it how I want to run it. I remember first thinking at the beginning of my blog journey about making the blog private, but then at a spur of the moment, decided to make it public. I’ve been able to meet some great people through my blog though, and for that I am thankful.

So as I move into my second year of blogging (I hope it continues!), here are some things that I hope to keep in mind and goals:

  • I hope to continue to grow as a writer. This is a skill that I can improve on, and my blog enables this
  • Try my best not to get caught up in the numbers. Remind myself that I am doing this for me and nothing else
  • Continue and remember why I enjoy blogging. I hope that if I ever found that this blog was not what I hope it to be or is causing me any undue stress, I’d be strong enough to step back and even walk away
  • I also hope to continue to work on my photography and potentially editing. The picture on this post is the only photo I think I’ve ever edited on my blog. I hope I’ll have time to experiment more with editing.
  • Be as active (or unactive) as I wish. I know if I push myself to do something that I don’t want to do, it will just end up not done or done poorly
  • Maybe potentially re=design my blog with HTML/CSS. I’ve been dying to code my blog for so long, but I just find it so difficult. I’m in IT too, the shame…
  • Learn more about Google Analytics. I think it would be very interesting to actually understand these metrics, plus this seems like really good information to learn about
  • Remember to enjoy the ride!

Hopefully what I’ve said in this post is in no way controversial. This is honestly just a a personal post and applies to my blog experience!

For those that read my blog, I just want to give a sincere thank you. I love having active discussions about products and beauty items with others. πŸ™‚ I hope you are able to enjoy your time on my little slice of the internet.

So here’s to 1 year, and hopefully more in the future!

PS. I thought I would ask this at the end as well. Any tips for me going into my 2nd year of blogging? Any critiques of my blog? Thanks for reading! πŸ™‚

One Lovely Blog Award/Tag: 7 Facts About Me

So I just wanted to say thank you to Miranda from miranda loves for tagging me for this award! Very kind of her to think of me, thanks so much! Miranda has a blog that I recently started following and I love it! The design is top notch girl! ;D

Here are the supposed rules.

1) You must display the award logo at the top of the post!
2) You must thank the person who nominated you and leave a link to their blog in your post (haha would have done this anyways)
3) You must add this set of rules to your post so that your nominees will know what to do
4) You must add 7 facts about yourself into the post (hopefully I can get to seven…)
5) You must nominate 15 other blogs and leave links to each of them in your post! (I don’t think I have that many people to tag, so I’m gonna be a rule breaker! :))
6) You must let the people who you have nominated know that they’ve been nominated!
7) You must follow back the person who nominated you on GFC and Bloglovin (you most definitely don’t need to follow me back if you don’t want to!)

Seven Facts about myself:

1.  I used to play ultimate frisbee in high school. It was the only sort of organized sport I played in high school and was really bad. But everyone was quite nice about it so that was cool.

2. I used to play the violin for…6 years in middle school and high school. I actually still have my violin. I can barely play and honestly didn’t really like it. My parents never forced me to play or anything, it was just an elective that was there and available. Once I started I just kept on going until I got to a point where I was like, no more of thissss!!!

3. My first makeup item was a Rimmel Scandaleyes (not including nail polish). That was about 6 or 7 years ago? I never got into makeup very seriously until recently though. It’s a dual ended one with black and grey. I never used it all that much. Haha I still  have it I wonder if it’s still usable and not ridden with germs. #gross

4. My other hobby is playing video games. I love Pokemon, Mario, Phoenix Wright and Layton. I wish I had more time to play my DS and Wii U!

5. I also have sort of recently got into running. I ran my first 5 k last summer and really enjoyed it. I’m hoping to aim for a 10 k this year, but that goal might be a bit lofty.

6. My favourite movie would probably have to be Spirited Away. I just find it so moving and so wonderful. πŸ™‚

7. Wow I made it to seven, didn’t think I would. (I’m not a very exciting person). Currently I’m studying IT at school. More Business IT though. πŸ™‚ (I’m no coder as much as I wish I was).

I wish to tag:

1. Nikki from The Penguin Critic
2. Whitney from Macarons and Mischief

Review: NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer

Hello! Hope you are enjoying your weekend!

I’ve been sitting on this review for so long, and I’m glad to be finally doing it! I bought this product back in the winter, and it has been my go-to foundation since.

Overview:

I like it, but I wouldn’t say holy grail status.

Price:

$49 CAD at Sephora (wow just realized how expensive this was!!)

Rating:

7 / 10

Would I Buy Again?

Yes, I would buy it again, but not before trying other products.

Rambling Review

I was looking into tinted moisturizers for awhile, and I remember I was looking at this one and the Laura Mercier one. When I went into Sephora I asked the associate for help and she recommended the NARS one just because of the buildable coverage. So meh, what the heck, I bought it.

I was surprised that the associate offered me the second lightest colour. She said that it definitely deepens after wearing, so what the heck. The colour I got was Alaska (Light 2).

After wearing it, I understand why she chose this shade for me!! I noticed it definitely oxidizes. The one thing I don’t really like about this foundation is that it turns out a bit orangey. It has very yellow undertones.

My pictures aren’t the best, but they show different lighting I guess?

The formulation is much more liquidy than I was expecting. I noticed that the best way to apply this was a patting motion with my fingers. Even my best brushes ended up making it look a little streaky. This is also a foundation that should be set with powder after application. Since it’s so light and liquidy, the power adds a little structure to it.

One thing I want to note is the smell! I didn’t expect it to be so pleasant! It has a lemony smell which sounds really odd, but most foundations I’ve smelled have been kinda toxicy or no scent. So this was definitely interesting.

I’m not sure if I would re-purchase this right away due to the price and orangey-ness, but I would say it’s a solid foundation (if the colours work for you).

Thanks for reading! Hope you have a great day!

Review: Benefit They’re Real Push-Up Liner

I’ve been so anxious to put up this review! Here it is coming attcha.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock (with no internet access), you’ve probably heard about the much much MUCH hyped new gel eyeliner from Benefit. Thanks to Janine from beautygeeks and Benefit Cosmetics I got to try out this liner before it hit stores last week. You can check out Janine’s review plus others who were lucky enough to get chosen for this campaign here.

Overview:

I think I might have found my new go-to eyeliner. πŸ˜€

Price:

This was kindly provided by Janine from beautygeeks and Benefit Cosmetics.

It can be found at Sephora, Shoppers Drug Mart/ Murale for $29 CAD

Rating:

9 / 10

Would I Buy Again?

Yes I would buy this liner again.

Rambling Review

Eyeliner is one of my favourite makeup items. I feel my eyes look so dead without it, so it’s usually my go-to. When I got picked for this campaign I was beyond excited. I wouldn’t say I’m usually on the forefront of the new makeup horizon, so I was excited to try something that I’ve heard so much about (plus my Stila stay all day liquid eyeliner was running out).

The eyeliner comes with a little orange nub thing I guess to keep the eyeliner from drying out.

As you can see from the picture, the tip is the most revolutionary part of this eyeliner. Usually when applying gel eyeliner you need an angled brush but not with this one. You click up the bottom of the pen and the gel is pushed up the tip. When I first opened this I got scared that I got a dud cause it probably took me 50 clicks to start getting product out. The relief I felt once I got the product flowing….dear jebus.

Along with the actual product, they provide you with a tip sheet to achieving the perfect liner. One of the tips they provide is to do a stamping motion on your lashline to keep the line steady. I found the issue with this trick is that it never really ‘stamped’ the product out. Since ain’t nobody got time for that, I just ended up applying this I would usually with short dragging motions.

And here is my result!

It gives such a nice matte black line which I love. It’s funny, I find that this liner looks better and better throughout the day. The lines soften (but don’t smudge) which creates a really smooth intense eyeliner look.

I also tried doing a little baby wing which will need more practice. :p

When taking this off, I would say use a strong waterproof makeup remover. I found that I needed to use two cotton pads instead of my usual one when removing.

All in all, I’m really impressed by this liner. I would say to do the dramatic super duper amazing wings take practice, but that’s just liner in general. If you like the look and feel of gel eyeliner, I would definitely recommend trying this out!
