Hello hello! I’m coming at you today with a post that I’ve wanted to do since I conceived my “Versus” series: a compilation of the dry shampoos I’ve been using and what I’ve thought of them. Dry shampoo is like a saviour. I have bangs so I usually need to spritz a bit in every day. Not all dry shampoos are created equally though. There are so many formulas out there and so many different price points. I can’t say I’m the end-all for dry shampoo, but I can at least tell you my opinion on the ones I’ve tried.
So the TL;DR (too long, didn’t read) version of this post is that all of these dry shampoos are good dry shampoos. I like each one of them, but each has characteristics that made it stand out.
1. COLAB Sheer Invisible Dry Shampoo
Price: $10 CAD for 200mL, $5 CAD for 50mL

All of the COLAB dry shampoo featured in this post were sent for review consideration. The first thing I noticed about the Sheer Invisible line was that it had a wetter formula than the other dry shampoos featured in this post. Another thing I noticed right away was the scents. I really really liked both of these scents. It made me think of a body spray type of scent versus that chemically dry shampoo smell. Effectiveness I would say it was middle of the road. As mentioned, my bangs get really oily and I noticed that I had to use quite a bit of this formula to get the oily ‘feel’ out of my hair. That being said, the formula is ‘invisible’ for my dark hair so using more wasn’t a huge hinderance.
2. COLAB Volume Extreme Dry Shampoo

This was a really interesting dry shampoo for review. I would actually consider this more of a styling treatment than a true dry shampoo. I felt like it did control the oil, but just because it was adding product to the hair. I think this is good for 2nd day hair, but after using this I would definitely say that you’d have to wash your hair the next day. The one thing that stood out to me about this product was that it really added SO much volume to my hair. My hair is pretty flat so it was so interesting seeing my hair so voluminous! I’ve never used a product that has been able to do this! This is not an invisible formula but I didn’t really have any trouble diffusing it. It wasn’t much whiter than any other formula I’ve used.
3. KLORANE Extra Gentle Dry Shampoo
Price: $17 for 150mL (from well.ca)

Claims: KLORANE Gentle dry shampoo with oat extract is ideal for people with little time, and therefore unable to wash their hair. It owes its cleansing properties to an original combination of highly absorbent agents that act as truly effective sponges to soak up dirt or sebum on the scalp. Hair volume and bounce is restored in just a few minutes. It is hypoallergenic.
I got this little sample size from an old ipsy bag. I quite like this dry shampoo. I find it works pretty well and has a pleasant clean scent. It does leave a bit of a white dusting, but I’m always able to diffuse it. I don’t have much to say about the KLORANE offering other than it’s a good dry shampoo and I would re-purchase. It’s definitely a bit more expensive than other dry shampoo offerings though.
4. Batiste Dry Shampoo in Original
Price: $9 for 200 mL
Where to buy: Wal-mart, Shoppers Drug Mart, well.ca
Claims: Get to grips with Batiste Original. Adored by innovators and originators, it’s the classic dry shampoo that instantly makes your hair feel clean, fresh and full of body and texture.
If you’ve heard of dry shampoo, you’ve probably heard of Batiste. The hype is definitely there for a reason; it works. I found this was the best dry shampoo to control oil. When you spray it, you instantly feel the oil soaking up (what a feeling, haha). Something else to note was that this dry shampoo had the most white residue. I’ve actually had a couple of embarrassing encounters with friends who wonder why I have a bit of a granny style going on with my white hair. Eep. I can only speak for the original, but I really dislike the smell of this. It seems very chemically to me.
Verdict
So finally the verdict! This was a hard post because I did like each of these dry shampoos for different reasons. Here is my quick opinion on each.
Batiste: I’d use it when my hair is quite filthy as I found it worked the best.
KLORANE: I could use this any time, but it doesn’t smell as good as COLAB and it doesn’t work as well as Batiste.
COLAB Invisible: I’d only use this when my hair isn’t super oily, but I would choose this over Batiste because of the nice scents.
COLAB Volume: I’d use this not really as a dry shampoo but more as a volumizing treatment.
