Review: Simple Skincare Roundup

simple skincare

Hello there! Today I have a combined review today thanks to the ChickAdvisor Review Club! I recently got the chance to try out 3 things from the Simple Skincare line: Simple Replenishing Rich Moisturizer, Simple Micellar Cleansing Water, and Simple Micellar Make-Up Remover Wipes.

Before we start, just a bit about the brand in case you’re interested. Simple is a facial skincare brand that started in the UK in 1960. The brand’s main philosophy is to create products without any artificial perfumes or dyes. Their products are also hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic and pH balanced. Due to all of these things, Simple is marketed as a skincare solution for those with sensitive skin.

Just for a frame of reference, I would say I have oily- combination type skin which is actually not too sensitive. I think like most, I’ve had a negative skin reaction here and there, but in general, I can try new products without spot testing. Now on to the reviews!

Review: Tresemme Beauty-Full Volume Reverse Wash System

*Sent for review

tresemme-beauty-ful-volume
One thing that I don’t do much on this blog is talk about hair care. I think one of the reasons why is that my hair is finicky. I’ve come to accept that whatever I use, my hair will be frizzy. Recently I was sent some samples of the new Tresemme Beauty-Full Volume line which is to be used in reverse order: conditioner then shampoo. Skeptical if this line would make a difference, I dove right in. And actually came out of the whole thing with pretty decent results.

Treat Yo Self with Farleyco + GIVEAWAY (CLOSED)

*Sent for review2016-02-05 22.27.45

Valentine’s Day is almost upon us. I feel like I either heard a dismayed sigh or an excited squeal. I would say I react with a combination of both. Even when I wasn’t in a relationship, I always enjoyed Valentine’s Day. Everyone seems so happy and caring and there’s chocolates. Tasty, tasty chocolate. How can you fault a holiday that encourages you to eat candy? But then of course there is SO much marketing about love and mushy gushy, which ends up getting a bit much.

This Valentine’s Day, I’m gonna take you through some ways you can take back this holiday and make it about you! You are loved and you are special! This should be a day to celebrate yourself and all your lovelyness! Lets get this show on the road as I take you on a magical journey of treat yo self.

Review: Nudestix #TOOCUTE Holiday Kit

*Purchased

nudestix #toocute
So let me start by saying that this set is no longer available at Sephora. I’m a kill joy right? But I still wanted to post about this just because it’s my first introduction to Nudestix. I want to assume that the products included in this kit are the same as their regular lip and cheek tints. I’ve been curious about Nudestix for awhile and if you are too, hopefully I can provide some insight.

My First (Real) Experience with Lush

*Gift
lush

I recently won a gift pack from a Canadian Beauty Blogger Twitter chat from Lush! I was so happy and excited just because I really haven’t used much from the brand. What seems like ages ago (junior high) I was gifted a bar soap from Lush. Other than that I hadn’t really tried much. Lush has all of these awesome gift sets, and I was sent the Golden Wonder set. I couldn’t have picked a better one! I love everything!

Review: THEFACESHOP Sheet Masks

*Sent for review

Hello! I was recently sent 3 sheet masks from THEFACESHOP to review. I have very little experience with sheet masks so I was really excited to try these out! I have used Balea mud masks and also a mini sample of Glam Glow, but never a sheet mask. I also do not know much about THEFACESHOP as a brand, so this was another reason why I was excited to try them out!

Just a few thoughts about the brand before getting into the reviews. I started to see THEFACESHOP popping up in malls for awhile now, but I have not really had a chance to explore. I know that they are trying to bring Asian beauty trends to the North American market which is interesting! I never really got on the Asian beauty bandwagon so it’s exciting to see. A work colleague gifted me the CUTEST hand cream from THEFACESHOP which I love. Their face masks I think are what they are really known for though. Without further ado, here are my thoughts on these 3 face masks.

1. Real Nature Mask Mung Bean

Price: $2 CAD

Description on THEFACESHOP website:
The Mungo Bean Real Nature Face Mask leaves skin clear and radiant. In just a couple of minutes, it helps eliminate impurities that clog your pores, to leave your skin dazzling.

The first thing I noticed when applying this mask was the pleasant smell. It was not overwhelming at all, and gave a nice spa-like experience while wearing it. Application was pretty easy, but I was a bit worried because I got some of the serum in my eyes. It mentions on the package to avoid contact with your eyes, but I couldn’t really avoid it. I’m happy to report that I experienced no eye discomfort which was great (but I definitely wouldn’t recommend it!). This mask felt SO amazing on. It was a cooling experience which I loved. After a long 8+ hour day of volunteering, this was exactly what my face needed. One thing I’d like to note though is that after I removed the mask I felt the serum did not completely sink in. I would say if you are using this mask, I would suggest putting it on and removing right before bed so the serum can be used similar to a night cream.

2. Hydro Gel Mask Sheet Vita C

Price: $3 CAD

Description on THEFACESHOP website:
This vitamin C gel mask revives skin’s natural radiance and tonus. Enriched with blood orange extract, it gives you a feeling of freshness and hydration in a couple of minutes.

What I found most interesting about this mask was that it was divided into two sections. The first half was for your nose up and then the second section was for your nose down. I found this made it very easy to apply the face mask as I wasn’t balancing and lining up the entire thing. What I also noticed was that the mask’s 2 portions were protected in another plastic covering. I think this was great because it kept more of the serum in the mask. This mask was a bit different from the other 2 in that it wasn’t a fabric sheet, but had more a plastic feel to it. After removal my skin felt clean, fresh and bright. What I liked about this compared to the Mung Bean one was that the serum soaked up into my skin very quickly!

3. Real Nature Mask Lemon

Price: $2 CAD

Description from THEFACESHOP website:
This mask illuminates your skin and gives you a flawless complexion! Enriched with lemon extract with brightening properties, it will even out your complexion in an instant!

I used this after going for a run for the first time in forever. It’s been pretty hot and humid lately, so I was tired after my run. Using this was very pleasant. This mask was similar to the Mung Bean one other than the scent. It was a fresh lemon scent, but nothing too over bearing. Like the Mung Bean one, I noticed that it left a bit of a residue on my face. So again, I would say it might be best to use this one at night and then wash your face in the morning.

Final Verdict

I would definitely repurchase these sheet masks in the future. I don’t believe you should really go into these thinking that you’ll get long terms skin results. I think these are great for a pick me up or a mini spa night. I feel like mud masks can provide better results, but they can be messy and a bit of a hassle to remove (I always miss one spot when removing and have to re-wash…). When looking up THEFACESHOP’s sheet masks, I saw on instagram that they have animal face printed masks. So you can look like a tiger while wearing your face mask. 😮 Amazing. I hope they have them in Canada because I’m determined to find some!

Thanks for reading, hope you are having a great day!

Makeup Geek Eyeshadows: Overview and Swatches

Thanks to Chelle from Makeup Your Mind and a multitude of other glowing and positive reviews, I decided to make my first Makeup Geek order.

My friend and I spent a good hour or so combing through the site deciding which shadows to get. There are a huge array from mattes to the ever coveted foiled ones. She stuck to more neutrals, while I wanted to be a bit more adventurous. I chose to pick shades that I had nothing like in my collection. I’m definitely glad I did. Here are the ones I decided upon.

1. Peacock

This is the only shade that I don’t love out of the ones I got. I find it a bit chalky (see swatch below). I don’t think I would use this as a liner, but I definitely think I could use it in the crease or outer corner.

2. Pegasus

When I was browsing the site, I instantly went to this shade. Isn’t it just stunning?! This is one of my favourite colours of all time. I was worried that it wouldn’t be wearable but I was able to make a look with it. I just can’t stop staring at it! Even when my boyfriend saw the shadows I got, he mentioned that he really liked the colour of this one!

3. Drama Queen

A dark purple with a bit of shimmer. I love this shade, but something I noticed was that it was a lot more brown than I expected compared to purple. I don’t really mind though, as it’s super pretty.

4. Sensuous

This is a lighter purple shade compared to Drama Queen with some shimmer. I love this one! Very pretty. I’ve used it in the crease, but I can see this as a lid colour too. Why not?

5. Flamethrower

I knew I wanted this one from the beginning. I saw it on Chelle’s post and knew I just had to have it. I was very worried it might be too orange, but it’s definitely not. The brown shines through, which makes it super wearable in my opinion. I’m wearing it today and am very happy with it!

I’m so happy I took the plunge with these. Here are a few more shots of them in my Z Palette and the swatches.

Peacock – Pegasus – Drama Queen – Sensuous – Flamethrower

Here are some quick facts about my order and the shadows which might be helpful to know:

  • All prices are in USD ($5.99 for the regular shadows and $9.99 for the foiled ones)
  • Shipping was around $8 (my friend and I spent about $150 on our order)
  • Not duty or taxes were charged on our order
  • It took around a week and a half for us to get our order
  • These stuck fine in my Z Palette but my friend has a MAC palette and it DID NOT just stick in. She had to add a piece of magnetic tape to the back of the pans for it to stick
  • The order came with a cute personalized card which thanked us for our order. Very nice touch.

All in all, I would definitely make another order from Makeup Geek. I really regret not getting more foiled eyeshadows. The formula is just incredible. Not that I’ve tried a huge huge amount of shadows, but they were different to the touch than anything I’ve tried.

Have you jumped on the Makeup Geek train yet? Any shades I should check out for next time? Which are your favourites from what I got?

Thanks for reading! Hope you have a wonderful day!
