One Lovely Blog Award/Tag: 7 Facts About Me

So I just wanted to say thank you to Miranda from miranda loves for tagging me for this award! Very kind of her to think of me, thanks so much! Miranda has a blog that I recently started following and I love it! The design is top notch girl! ;D

Here are the supposed rules.

1) You must display the award logo at the top of the post!
2) You must thank the person who nominated you and leave a link to their blog in your post (haha would have done this anyways)
3) You must add this set of rules to your post so that your nominees will know what to do
4) You must add 7 facts about yourself into the post (hopefully I can get to seven…)
5) You must nominate 15 other blogs and leave links to each of them in your post! (I don’t think I have that many people to tag, so I’m gonna be a rule breaker! :))
6) You must let the people who you have nominated know that they’ve been nominated!
7) You must follow back the person who nominated you on GFC and Bloglovin (you most definitely don’t need to follow me back if you don’t want to!)

Seven Facts about myself:

1.  I used to play ultimate frisbee in high school. It was the only sort of organized sport I played in high school and was really bad. But everyone was quite nice about it so that was cool.

2. I used to play the violin for…6 years in middle school and high school. I actually still have my violin. I can barely play and honestly didn’t really like it. My parents never forced me to play or anything, it was just an elective that was there and available. Once I started I just kept on going until I got to a point where I was like, no more of thissss!!!

3. My first makeup item was a Rimmel Scandaleyes (not including nail polish). That was about 6 or 7 years ago? I never got into makeup very seriously until recently though. It’s a dual ended one with black and grey. I never used it all that much. Haha I still  have it I wonder if it’s still usable and not ridden with germs. #gross

4. My other hobby is playing video games. I love Pokemon, Mario, Phoenix Wright and Layton. I wish I had more time to play my DS and Wii U!

5. I also have sort of recently got into running. I ran my first 5 k last summer and really enjoyed it. I’m hoping to aim for a 10 k this year, but that goal might be a bit lofty.

6. My favourite movie would probably have to be Spirited Away. I just find it so moving and so wonderful. 🙂

7. Wow I made it to seven, didn’t think I would. (I’m not a very exciting person). Currently I’m studying IT at school. More Business IT though. 🙂 (I’m no coder as much as I wish I was).

I wish to tag:

1. Nikki from The Penguin Critic
2. Whitney from Macarons and Mischief
3. Vanessa from Citron and Guavaberry (even though your last post was LITERALLY a 10 facts about me)

I just wanted to give a proper shoutout to these ladies for commenting on my humble little blog so frequently. I love having conversations with you guys. 🙂 No pressure to do a post or anything, just wanted to give a thank you shout out.

Of course if you are reading this and would like to take part, that would be awesome! I give this award to you too, so feel free to do this! Link me your blog in the comments too, I always like discovering new gems. :3

Hope everyone is having a great week! 🙂

ChickAdvisor Show Case 2014 – A Makeup Lover’s Dream!

I feel like it’s been so long since I blogged! I’ve had a lot of ideas swirling around my mind, and then I heard about the ChickAdvisor Show Case. I instantly knew I would have something to blog about after attending this event!

For those that don’t know ChickAdvisor is a rating website where you can judge anything from makeup to baby toys and everything in between. Last year I attended another event of theirs called Shop Crawl and I had an amazing time. I got an amazing swag bag full of incredible stuff. Once I got notification of the Show Case, I knew I had to check it out.

Luckily I bought my tickets when I did for my friend and I cause about 2 days after they went live, the Toronto location was all sold out!

The premise of the event was fairly simple. Get a bunch of like-minded ladies together to review some makeup and food items and submit reviews to ChickAdvisor on the spot. Oh, and did I mention it was held at the swankiest hotel in Toronto, The Ritz Carlton?

My day started out pretty hectic before the event. I had run a 5k in the morning, and when my friend and I were driving to the Ritz, the traffic was crazy. We arrived late to the event, but thank goodness, we came right on time to jump into the reviews.

Here are the things we tested out:

Soap & Glory Sexy Mother Pucker XL Extreme Plump Collagen Lip Shine

No Dark Shadows Complexion Enhancer

GOSH Bronzing Shimmer Powder

Skinny Cow Dreamy Clusters Milk Chocolate

Rocky Mountain Soap Organic Sugar Scrub

Kleenex Expressions by Isaac Mizrahi

Soap & Glory Heel Genius Amazing Foot Cream

Skinny Cow Greek Frozen Yogourt Salted Caramel (all munched up my me. :))

No Bleeding Lips Secret Lipliner

Bourjois Paris Color Boost Lip Crayon

Let me just say this event was amazing. Super well organized, the setup was great, and the food was amazing. I had such a great time with my friend, and it was something I would love to do again.

Here are some other pictures of the event that I could snap:

Thanks to ChickAdvisor for putting this altogether! I look forward to coming to more events in the future!

Thanks for reading, hope you have a great day!

Confessions of a Cake Face

Is it sad that while this was happening, I was thinking of blogging it? Probably.

So today at work we had a end of term event for all the interns leaving for the semester (I’m staying though, so for me it was an afternoon of free food. The best kind of food). Mostly for work I don’t do full makeup or anything just cause I’m so dang lazy. Today though I did full face makeup (brows, highlighter, the works).

Half way through the event as I’m sipping on my free Ginger Ale (did I mention I love free stuff?), my friend looks over at my face and says “Um, I think you have something on your face.” As I look at her with a puzzled look, two other people in the conversation look over with a slightly disgusted look. “Yeah, it looks like an orange streak on your face”. “Wow must be your makeup”. I didn’t even know what to say. One person actually said “It looks like you put it there”. Wow, nice.

What could I have said? Nothing much to make me feel any less embarrassed. All I could do is partially laugh it off as I scrubbed at my face with my hand. It’s funny, cause as I was scrubbing I was thinking “They must be seeing things, I deff checked my makeup just recently!”. #denial

As the title of my blog states, I’m Not a Beauty Guru, but I’m trying and learning!

Moral of the story, don’t let a streaky face get you down. You go Glen Coco.

Have a lovely long weekend everyone!

Heads Up About the Sephora Beauty Insider Program

Hello!

After posting a few reviews and hauls I think I’m starting to get a hang of this whole blogging thing.

I thought instead of posting a review, I would post something that came up recently about my Beauty Insider account with Sephora. I don’t think I’m the first person this has happened too, and I would like to give others a heads up.

For those that don’t know, the Sephora Beauty Insider (BI) program is a free loyalty card system that awards you 1 point for every $1 spent in the store. If you collect 100, 250, or 500 point denominations, you can redeem for free little goodies.

There are 3 levels to the BI program: Beauty Insider (everyone begins at this level), Very Important Beauty (VIB, spend $350 or more in a calendar year), and VIB Rouge (spend $1000 or more in a calendar year).

Each level has specific perks including sales, gifts, etc.

Anyhoo, after my post Christmas shopping, I noticed when I looked at my running total dollars spent towards VIB was not adding up.

I ended up calling Sephora, and the call center associate was very nice. She added up the totals herself, and noticed, yes, my account was off by around $50. So I thought, wow. That’s quite a bit towards a $350 goal. She told me that someone from Sephora would either call me or email me a request form so my account could be updated. I actually never received this call or email, but I didn’t bother following up because I was still $50 away from making VIB and it was 2 days until the new year (when your totals reset).

After this experience I can honestly say I’m going to be watching my account a lot more carefully. Disclaimer, I am no way complaining about the program itself. I think it’s great they they can offer free birthday gifts and other perks to members. I was just disappointed in the realization that their systems really weren’t as accurate as I thought.

So just a heads up, save your receipts, and check your account frequently!

Thanks for reading!

Beginnings

Some people say that the best ideas happen in the shower.
I would happen to agree.

Well here it is. My first blog post. I’m not even sure what to say.
I guess I could start out with what this blog will be about.

If you couldn’t tell from the title this will be a beauty blog. I’m a huge YouTube beauty guru fan. I’ve been watching Ingrid, Fleur, Tanya Burr and many more since getting into makeup a couple of years ago. Also insinuated in the title is my lack of skills in the makeup department. Don’t get me wrong. I really enjoy playing around with makeup and trying out new looks. But I honestly don’t know very much at all. In the past couple of years I have gone from bare faced every day to attempting to flick the perfect cat eye.

So I thought I would create this blog as a personal beauty diary. I plan to use it to keep track of products that I like, products I dislike, tips that I pick up around the internet and anything else that I feel like smashing in here. One of the major reasons I decided to start this blog was to actually keep track of things that I’ve tried and my opinion on it. I’ve done this quite a bit, where I pick up a product in the store, and I wonder if I liked it…d’oh.

I come from the world of Tumblr, so I’m unaware completely of any unwritten rules and such. I hope I will be able to post YouTube videos from gurus that I find helpful on here without facing a lawsuit or anything, haha. I guess I’ll find that out soon enough.

Anyways here it is! The beginning. Who knows how long this blog will last. Who knows how often I’ll post. As mentioned before, this blog is mostly for my sake, to keep together all the bits and bobs that I happen to pick up about makeup. But hey, if you wanna join me for the ride, you’re more than welcome!
