#NailsOfTheDay: Let’s Get This Party (Minimally) Started

Hello hello! Hope you are having a lovely day!

So today I did my nails with inspiration from a guest post I saw on Natalie’s blog Ivory Avenue which was written by Nadia from The View is Beautiful. Haha so many links! But when I saw it, I loved the design! It was so minimally understated, but still looked so nice.

Here is my attempt at a recreation!

I haven’t used glitter in so long, so it was nice to break it out! I love this glitter polish too. It reminds me of a birthday party with confetti. :3

The polishes I used are:

Base Coat: Revlon #955
Base Colour: Essie Turquoise & Caicos
Glitter: American Apparel Glitter (no name)
Top Coat: Seche Vite

I am loving Seche Vite so far. The hype is real. *u*

Thanks for reading! I hope you have a wonderful day!

Review: Sephora Instant Nail Polish Remover Wipes

 *Purchased

I’m one of the laziest people when it come to anything. So when I see a product that could potentially save time, I’m all over it. I was introduced to the idea of nail polish remover wipes through the Josie Maran ones that I picked up through Sephora’s Black Friday/ Boxing Day sales. (You can see the wipes here). I will be comparing these wipes to the Josie Maran ones throughout this review.

Overview

They worked mostly, but I would not repurchase.

Price:

$6 CAD for 20 wipes at Sephora. (I actually remember buying mine for around $10. It lists $6 on the website though).

Rating:

 6 / 10

Would I Buy Again?

Nope!

Rambling Review

After trying the Josie Maran ones, I was pretty surprised with these. They are almost the exact opposite. The Josie Maran ones are drenched with oil (almost to the point of grossness) whereas these ones are drying. The very first time I used them I was surprised. After less than a minute after opening the package, the wipe was totally dry. It was quite a weird realization! I was completely unprepared so I had to open up another one. After I learned that they dry up like the desert in t-minus 60 seconds, I was able to use them a lot better. I am able to use 1 wipe for both of my hands. (But that is literally me furiously scrambling to remove the polish! It’s like a race.)

What I can say about these wipes is that they work decently well. I do not have to tug or strain to take the polish off. I have not tried these with glitters though.

Even though these are cheaper, I would much rather use the Josie Maran nail polish remover wipes. They make my hands feel a lot nicer (after rinsing the excess oil off). Even if I’m feeling too cheap for the Josie Maran one’s I guess I could go back to just putting nail polish remover on a cotton pad. πŸ˜‰

Hope that was semi-helpful if you were looking into nail polish remover wipes! Have an awesome day!

#NailsOfTheDay: The Great Wave

Hello there blog world!

For my birthday a friend gifted me Essie’s cult classic Mint Candy Apple. I also recently bought Essie’s After School Boy Blazer. Both were sitting on my desk and I thought both colours would look great in a wave nail art design. Here are the results:

I got inspiration from the famous Japanese wave painting.

Source: Wikipedia
I am decently happy with this. I’m definitely no artist (as you can see), but I enjoy once and awhile attempting new nail art designs. I feel like a lot of people wouldn’t know it is a wave without me telling them (my friend asked me today what was on my nails). I like the effect though as it looks more abstract and I like the blend of the colours. If anything, it’s a nice splash of colours on my nails (if not looking perfectly like a wave). πŸ™‚ I like that each hand turned out a bit different too. It was pretty quick to do also, I just used a toothpick to draw on the splashes.

#NailsOfTheDay: Crisp Chrome

Wow I have not done one of these posts in awhile!

I didn’t do a fancy manicure or anything, but I thought I would highlight this colour. I am LOVING this on my nails right now!

The colour is called ‘Smoke Dazzle’ from American Apparel. I took 2 different shots as it looks different depending on the light. The top picture is artificial light and the bottom one is natural light. It goes from a green-ish hue to a purple-ish gun-metal-ish (a lot of ‘ish’ in that last sentence!).

I also just wanted to say how much I love American Apparel nail polish. I’m not a fan of their brand at all, but I bought a Groupon for a deal on their nail polishes to try out. They’re smooth, easy to apply, and the colour payoff is really great. I would recommend them!

#NailsOfTheDay: Golden Berries

Well hello there!

So I decided to try out the nail stuff I got from the warehouse cosmetics sale (which can be seen here). Anyone else like that when you buy new makeup or nail polish where you just wanna try everything LIKERIGHTNOW? Yup that’s me.

 The colour is ‘In Stitches’

So I’m pretty happy with how it came out. I’m loving the colour. The L’Oreal nail stickers are okay. I was expecting that they might be like the Revlon by Marchesa (you can read my review here) which I didn’t like all that much cause they were hard to apply. But luckily these were a bit easier to file down which was nice. They’re not perfect, but I really like the effect.

#NailsOfTheDay: Ocean Waves

Hello!

So I decided to try using a sponge to create a gradient effect for my nails. Haha it definitely didn’t turn out the best, but I think it’s a noble first attempt.

The sponge looked pretty nice though!

Here are some things which I hope to keep in mind for next time!

1. Use scotch tape to make clean up less of a hassle. My cuticles are a mess!
2. Not only think of the colours, think of the opacity of the nail polish. I just picked 3 colours that I think looked good together, but when applying, it was really splotchy.

The colours I used were:

(Left – Right)
Essie – Naughty Nautical  : Super beautiful. Very opaque and has a nice shimmer to it.

China Glaze – For Audrey : Very popular China Glaze colour for good reason. I think my bottle is getting a little old though and is not applying as nicely as it once used to.

OPI – Gargantuan Green Grape : Not very green anymore! I remember when I first bought this green it was a more minty, but it seems to have lightened a lot. Very VERY streaky polish. I like the colour, but you need 3 solid coats to get it opaque.

Well, live and learn right? I hope to try this technique again!

#NailsOfTheDay: Merry Mint + Nail Polish Removal

Coming at you with another Nails of the Day!

This one is super simple, but I can’t get over how much I love the colour.

This is a Joe Fresh polish in Mint. I got this colour a long long time ago and have no idea if they still make this one. Joe Fresh polish is okay. I wouldn’t say they are as good as other higher end brands, but for the price of Joe Fresh, I would say they are worth a try.

On another note, I thought I would blog about how I’ve been removing my nail polish lately. In either a Boxing Day or a Black Friday Sephora kit, I got these Josie Maran Nail Wipes

I have been loving these at the moment! At first when I used them I found them a bit greasy. They are cotton pads soaked in an oil. After using them, I loved how effective and convenient they are. They have a pleasant scent and I find removing nail polish so easy. Depending on the what I have on my nails (sparkles or not), I can sometimes get away with using one pad for one hand. Not too shabby considering I always use a million cotton balls when using regular nail polish remover.

They sell this at Sephora so if you wanna try a new way to remove your nail polish, I recommend that you give this a try!

#NailsOfTheDay: Cranky Crackle

Coming home from work I ran into the most cranky woman. Okay so I know you had a bad day, but you don’t have to take it out on me. You know when you run into those types of people that just need to voice off about everything? She seemed like that type.

I came home pretty upset about it, and I think the best medicine is a good dose of blogging.

Here are my nails of the day:

I painted these yesterday. I’m really happy how they came out. I know crackle nails seem so two-thousand and late, but I still like the effect. The pale pink underneath I think adds a really subtle touch compared to the harsh crackle sparkles.

Funny enough, the pink colour is Eternal Optimist by Essie. My boyfriend got me the crackle polish for my birthday one year, I’m not sure the colour or brand.

Hope you’re having a great day!

#NailsOfTheDay: Gumdrop Sparkles

Hello there!

Hope you’re having a great day!

Just wanted to share my nails of the day!
I remember getting this nail polish from someone and thinking. Hmm! Not sure if I’ll ever use this! It seems so loud and pink and such. After applying it though, I fell in love! Textured nail polish is quite popular right now, so I feel very chic. In a Barbie-pink sort of way.

The texture is called Gumdrop, but I think it’s pretty much the same style as sand. I love the sparkles in it, and can’t stop touching my nails!

Hope you’re having a great day! πŸ™‚

#NailsOfTheDay: Missing the Holidays

Hello!

So I decided to add a new section to my blog called #NailsOfTheDay. I honestly don’t paint my nails every day, but I thought it sounded better than #NailsOfTwoWeeks…

For the first #NailsOfTheDay I have holiday-esque nail colours.

It looks so Christmas-y, but I love the wine with gold accent.

The polishes are:
China Glaze – Seduce Me
Nicole by OPI – The Next CEO

Until next time. πŸ™‚
