Brand Collections: Cheekbone Beauty

cheeckbone beauty haul

It’s been awhile since I’ve been excited about new makeup products. It might be because I’ve fallen slightly out of love with chasing up with the latest and greatest launches. I have so many fantastic products in my collection which has been great to rediscover some things. With that being said, I have some fantastic lip products to showcase today. I learned about Cheeckbone Beauty some time ago when owner Jenn Harper pitched on Dragons’ Den. I’ve been debating a purchase for a long time and finally took the plunge recently!

The Brand

Cheeckbone Beauty is a unique offering in the beauty world which really piqued my interest. They are an indigenous owned and operated beauty brand led by Jenn Harper out of St. Catharines Ontario Canada. They have a huge focus on sustainability, and supporting indigenous youth. They donate a portion of their proceeds to indigenous youth education initiatives.

More and more, I’m looking to put my money towards products and causes that align with my value system and make a difference. What i’ll say as well is that the customer experience is unreal. I was communicated to all the way through the process. With COVID affecting supply and operations, my order was slightly delayed. They were completely open with delays and the communications were awesome. I also had a short email chain with Jenn just mentioning how happy I was to be supporting a brand that really means something. Her willingness to interact with customers is so refreshing.

The Products

The majority of Cheekbone Beauty’s products are lip based. They also have a face palette, a few brow items and I believe they are also working on a mascara!

I bought three of their liquid lipsticks and one of their Sustain lipsticks. Their Sustain lipsticks are housed in biodegradable packaging that you can actually take apart to dispose of!

Liquid Lipsticks

All of the lipsticks go on smooth and even with a very beautiful and strong pigment. They have a light sweet scent (very similar to a MAC lipstick). I’m super happy with how they wear. I’ve worn each colour a full day, and have needed minimal touchups. These lipsticks aren’t a bullet matte, but more of a smooth mousse-y texture. They do not dry out my lips AT ALL which was fantastic.

Melina

If I had to tell you one lipstick to purchase it would be Melina. It is the PERFECT my lips but better shade. I actually think the swatches on the site don’t do it justice. The ones on the site lean more nude I think. I was pleasantly surprised to see that it had the perfect amount of pink to it.

Melina is named after Melina Laboucan-Massimo, and Indigenous Rights advocate who also is a  Climate and Energy Campaigner with Greenpeace Canada.

Ashley

Another stunning shade, I feel like Ashley would look good with many different skintones. It’s a beautiful light berry colour. Again, the swatches on the site weren’t exactly what I received which is fine. I noticed mine leaned more pink/red toned which I love. Definitely a recommend as well!

Ashley was named for Ashley Callingbull, the first Canadian and Indigenous woman to win the Mrs. Universe title. During quarantine I also watched her and her dad compete on The Amazing Race Canada 4th season. She was really a joy to watch!

Sarain

Now we have one not for the faint of heart, Sarain! It almost glows how bright it is. I’m not one to shy away from bright lipsticks and this is no exception! I LOVE the tone of this lipstick. It’s actually quite unique with it being a bright red with a tinge of orange. It is SO pretty!

Sarain is named for Sarain Fox, an Indigenous Rights activist along with host for RISE on VICELAND.

Sustain Lipstick

Kéyah

The Sustain lipstick in Kéyah had a lot to live up to with how much I loved the liquid lipstick formula. I really love the colour. It’s very similar to Melina, but has a more of a natural look with it being in stick form. I thought the stick itself was a bit hard. The colour definitely deposited on my lips, but it didn’t glide on super easily. I can definitely see myself using this up though as I am a huge fan of the colour!

Kéyah or KEE YAH means land or earth in Dine Bizaad or Navajo Language. All of the Sustain lipstick names focus on land, earth, on the land or other translations which is really intriguing.

All in all I’m pretty much begging you try Cheekbone Beauty out. It actually met and exceeded my expectations on quality. Their ethos as a company is amazing as well. I can’t wait to follow along in their journey and snatch up some amazing products where possible!

Thanks so much for reading! Have a great day!
