Toronto BITE Beauty Lip Lab Experience (tons of pictures)

I’ve talked about BITE multiple times on this blog, and it’s probably one of my favourite cosmetics companies. BITE Beauty is a lipstick brand that is made with food grade ingredients so you can essentially eat them!

BITE Beauty has a ‘lip lap’ in New York which you can create your own lipstick. You can choose the colour, the scent, and the finish. A dream? I think so too. Very recently, BITE opened up a lip lab in Toronto and I had to check it out!

The Toronto BITE Lip Lab is located at 678 Queen St West. The location looks a bit small from the outside, but it is quite large once inside. Also, one of the associates mentioned that the second floor is available for BITE events which is super cool!

Right when you enter you’re greeted with a beautiful wall display of all of the BITE Products. They have on display all of the lipstick colours including their lip care products like their Agave Lip Mask and lip scrubs.

Right when I entered, I was offered some cookies! I honestly don’t remember what they were as I didn’t eat any, but still such a nice thought.

I didn’t have to wait long at all. The assistant asked me to sit at the ‘bar’ until someone was free. This was perfectly fine with me as I got to explore the space a bit more. At the back of the Lip Lab, there is a window into the ‘kitchen’ where they produce the pigments. All the pigments, even the ones used in the New York lip lab, are produced here!

It was pretty cool to get a look into how they produce the pigments. Look at those bright ingredients on the left!

After about five minutes, someone became free, and I was able to start my session. πŸ™‚ The assistant was super nice and definitely tried to get to know me. He asked if I had a lip colour in mind, and I had a vague idea of what I wanted: a pinky red that I could wear during the day. He also asked the finish I wanted and I decided upon Amuse Bouche. I like the creamier formula and wanted this one to be super moisturizing!

After my description, the assistant chose different pigments that might work. He mixed the pigment with some of the Amuse Bouche formula to get the lipstick. One thing to note is that they don’t actually mix different colour pigments together. They have all these different tints and shades and just mix the lipstick formula with the colour. This makes sense because I guess it would be too hard to perfectly replicate which amount of which pigment was used for a full lipstick.

It took 4 different tries until I found something that I really liked. The first one was a bit too pink (loved the colour, but I have SO many lipsticks in a similar shade) and the other two leaned a bit more berry where I wanted a bit more red. The last one I thought was a great mixture of pink and red.

After I chose the colour, the creation of the lipstick began! I now was able to choose the scent of lipstick. This was super fun, as they have quite a few fruity and fragrant scents for you to choose from. I ended up choosing a mixture of Mango and Cherry as you can choose up to 2 scents. It smells just like candy which was exactly what I wanted!

After the assistant helped mixed up the lipstick, he poured it into the lipstick bullet mold to set. He then put it on this cold metal plate thing to fully form. He said that reds take a bit longer just because of the pigment.Β After about 10 minutes, my lipstick was ready to be revealed!

The whole experience was perfect and just so much fun. The the assistant helping me was amazing and took his time with everything. After putting together my lipstick, he wrapped it all up and I was ready to go!

Price and Package

I’m sure you’re probably wondering the price. The cost for one lipstick was $55 CAD and with tax $62. This isn’t a super affordable experience, but I would definitely say it’s worth it. I mean come on, I got a completely custom made lipstick!

The package you get to take home is in a super nice bag and box. It really just elevates the entire experience.

Something very nice is the custom bullet that you get from the lip lab! Apparently even the New York one does not give you this custom lipstick tube! In the box I also got a sample of the Agave Lip Mask which I already love!

Another really nice touch was the inclusion of a bag of two BITE Lush Lip Wipes and a mirror (I have like, 5 of these mirrors. It’s almost like a collection).

The Lipstick

Now the full reveal! This is the lipstick that I made. It’s exactly what I wanted: a pink toned red. I’m so happy how it came out!

Like all BITE lipsticks, the pigmentation is amazing and it glides on like a dream.

This was an amazing experience and I would recommend it to any makeup lover. I can also this being great for a birthday party, bachelorette, or other event idea. You don’t have to make a reservation, and the whole experience takes around 30 minutes. I believe their hours are 11am-7pm.

Thanks so much for reading! Hope you’re having a great day!

  1. I’ve been wanting to check out the lip lab since I heard it opened up! Did you have to make an appointment before going there? I know you have to for the New York one.

    1. You have to go! It’s amazing! Nope, no appointment needed! It’s a lot bigger than the New York one from what I’ve seen. Maybe if it becomes more well known/ popular they will implement an appointment system but for now walk ins are fine!

    1. Oh you’re out of Toronto now?!? Aww! Hopefully you can come and visit! I think it would be super fun to do as a mom-daughter thing or a bday gift for sure! Thanks so much Elyse! I haven’t named it yet! ! I should get on that!

  2. SO JEALOUS AND SUCH A PRETTY SHADE. I haven’t made my way down there yet since #poorAF, but I’m so glad we finally have a lab in Toronto! I want my lipstick to smell like mango, goddamn.

    1. Thanks! Oh I know the feels. >_< It's totally great that we have one here now. I was legitimately wanting to plan a NY trip just to go to the lip lab (among a few other things). So many scents! They had fruity scents, but also things like lavender. A good variety!

  3. This is such a cool experience! The colour you created looks beautiful! I think $55 is a totally reasonable price. Heck, I’d even pay more haha. I definitely need to do this soon! I agree that this would be a great thing to do with friends for a special occasion πŸ™‚ Seriously, so cool.

  4. That looks like a great thing to do while out with friends! I think it’s a great price to have a lipstick made specifically for you. I am going to have to make sure I have time the next time I go to Toronto to give that a try!

    1. It was amazing! Yeah I think it’s about that price there in the US. I guess factoring the exchange? But still that sucks. But from what I’ve heard about the New York one it’s not as nice as the a Toronto one. From videos I’ve seen, it seems a lot more cramped.

  5. The price is actually pretty good because it’s a lot about the experience anyway! I would love to do this if I ever get the opportunity but I’m staying sooooo far away. You created a stunning shade too, it looks amazing on you. xx

    1. It’s not bad at all! I love how you can choose the scent too! And that limited edition bullet?!? Ugh, amazing. Thanks Shireen! I love the colour too!

  6. I didn’t realize there were so many parts that you can customize like the scent! It definitely is a splurge but the packaging is so nice and would be such a nice treat!! Wonder if they’ll open one in Vancouver!
